This past weekend, Zimbabwe lifter Audrey Svongwa competed at the 3rd African Arnold Classic Powerlifting & Benchpress Championships!
Audrey is a 33 years-young single mom from the high-density subburb of Glen Norah, Harare, and was introduced to powerlifting last summer by lift4life. She has since made the sport her own and continues to pave the way for the community in Zimbabwe.
.
Audrey took the stage in Johannesburg, hitting a huge 9/9 at her first meet!
.
Audrey fundraised her own way to make the competition opportunity possible, and has been training hard as a sponsored athlete under Meep Squad. It was magical witnessing it all come together on the platform, and we would like to send so many sending strong thank you's to everyone from around the world who donated and supported and cheered in every shape and form.
.
Squats! 70 kg, 75 kg, 80 kg (Personal Best)
.
Bench! 50 kg, 55 kg, 57.5 kg (Personal Best)
.
Deadlift! 95 kg, 102.5 kg, 107.5 kg (Personal Best)
.
Totalling 245kg at 69.9kg bodyweight! A big thank you to Antoinette from our Lift4Life partner The Bar who coached her on the day.
Team Member Nicola Paviglianiti was also at the meet, and will be heading back to Zimbabwe with Audrey to continue to support powerlifting on the ground and build more Lift4Life donated gyms.
.
Zimbabwe is now an official member of the International Powerlifting Federation so we hope to see and support more lifters officially step onto the platform in the years to come! Congrats Audrey on your incredible day! #Lift4Life
