Uplifting Lesotho
While Lift4Life has been active in Zimbabwe since 2015 addressing community needs through our gyms and sponsored programs, we now have the opportunity to expand to the country of Lesotho in partnership with local leaders.
Lesotho is a small landlocked country within South Africa, that has a population of just over 2 million. Recent droughts have hit the African country hard, and food insecurity and livelihoods are a huge concern for a large number of the population - leaving them very vulnerable.
In December 2019 South African powerlifting coaches Antoinette & Andrew from The Bar Strength & Conditioning Gym travelled to host the first ever powerlifting workshop in the country. It was a huge success, with both men and women coming eager to experience the power of the barbell. Antonette and Andrew also generously donated barbells and weights to add to the homemade equipment they already have.
The innovation, motivation, and dedication we have witnessed already from Lesotho to use powerlifting for positive change in the community inspires us! Bafokeng, the local leader we are partnering with is even working with the local chief to get land for a Lift4Life gym, and has a focus to use powerlifting to help empower youth with disabilities.
WE NEED YOU! We are already starting to build the first squat and bench rack using local materials and welding talents. But our goal is to make plates for them as well as establish a building and safe space for them to train and continue to set up community programs. Our goal is to raise 10,000USD to cover the costs of building and opening the first ever Lift4Life gym with free access for all, as well as local trainings and workshops for the community.
