After hearing stories from the girls at our donated Lift4Life gyms about how their period was a barrier to lifting (many can’t afford pads and hygiene products, and negative stereotypes were everywhere) Lift4Life established a special partnership with The Restoration Hem Project.

The Restoration Hem Project provides reusable sanitary pad kit designed to provide a girl with everything she needs to manage her menstruation for up to three years. All materials are locally sourced locally, and every kit is hand sewn and assembled by a local sewing team. In conjunction with the distribution, their team runs a seminar on basic feminine health and hygiene practices as well as sexual reproductive health care. One kit only costs $7USD to help a girl manage her period for 3 years.

The gym space is a powerful place to listen to and address community needs. We started with kit donations to 30 girls within the community gym of Epworth, Harare, and to date have expanded to reach multiple communities where we work in Zimbabwe to reduce barriers for girls both in lifting and life.

Our partnership with The Restoration Hem project is just one of the ways we use holistic community approach to build stronger communities.
