Scholarship Smiles

Over the past month, Lift4Life has had the honour of giving out scholarships to 6 deserving youth in Zimbabwe. We are excited to share their stories below!

These scholarship go towards these little lifters school fees in order to keep them learning and in school, while also encouraging their passion for powerlifting. All these lifters did exceptional at the ZPF powerlifting meet hosted in February, and it is our hope that these small awards continue to motivate them to attend coach Audreys workshops in their local Lift4Life donated gyms. These local powerlifting workshops help keep youth off the streets and out of trouble, build friendships and community, and also promote health and a drug free lifestyle as powerlifting is a drug-free sport - substance abuse is a big issue in the communities we work with in Zimbabwe. You can learn more about the impact of the Lift4Life workshops here
.

Meet 10 year old aspiring Zimbabwe powerlifter Simbarashe.  This young lifter is a prime example of how powerlifting is for everyone, and recently put his training to action as the youngest participant in the local meet hitting a 40kg squat, 20kg bench, and 55kg deadlift!

Meet Juliet from the community of Epworth in Zimbabwe. Juliet is a 14 year old aspiring powerlifter, who just participated in her first meet! This strong girl is currently attending Morgan high school, and is in "form 2" - the equivalent to Grade 8 in North America. Juliet attends Saturday powerlifting workshops with coach Audrey, and they are paving the way for female powerlifting in the country.

Kelly and Wilma were presented their scholarships at a local church service by pastor Elliot. Pastor has become an active member of the growing powerlifting community on the ground, and now even participates himself! Presenting them at the local church allowed many people to be involved in the celebration of these  two young aspiring female powerlifters.  It was a special celebration of their dedication to training, and their accomplishment last month at the local inter-community meet.

Meet Tatenda a powerlifting rockstar who loves to rock a singlet! And Sly our 10 year old aspiring powerlifter from the community of Mabvuku. Both these lifting lads continue to lead by example and inspire their peers to powerlift in their communities.

All these scholarships were generously donated thanks to the Women of Steel event Lift4Life fundraiser hosted in Calgary in February. Interested in supporting or donating? Check out our support page  and partnership opportunities! A little can go a long way, and an entire semester of school fees is approximately $20. #LiftingAndUplifting
